Mike Soumekh
Principal, CIO & COO
Mike Soumekh is the CIO & COO of Epta Capital, where he oversees all aspects of the firm’s investment activities and fund operations. He brings a background in specialty finance and investment banking, with extensive experience advising financial sponsors and leading complex, high-profile transactions. His work has spanned the financial services landscape, with a particular focus on banks, insurance, and specialty finance, where he has advised on strategic M&A, capital raising, and transformational sponsor-backed investments.
Prior to founding Epta, Mike was a Vice President in Bank of America’s Financial Sponsors Group. In this role, he advised leading private equity firms on more than $100 billion of M&A and capital markets transactions. He has led and executed over 40 transactions across financial services, insurance, technology, healthcare, and industrials, including several multi-billion-dollar carve-outs in the insurance and industrial sectors. His transaction experience includes advising sponsors on both control and minority investments, structuring equity and debt financings, and developing creative capital solutions to support portfolio company growth and strategic repositioning.
Mike developed particular expertise working with financial sponsors investing in banks, insurance companies, and specialty finance platforms. His experience includes advising on leveraged buyouts, capital raises, strategic mergers, recapitalizations, and carve-outs, with a consistent focus on aligning sponsor objectives with long-term value creation.
Earlier in his career, Mike worked in M&A advisory at Crystal & Company, where he focused on financial sponsor acquisitions and diligence, providing analytical and strategic support to private equity firms evaluating opportunities across the financial services sector.
Mike holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and a BA in Economics and Environmental Studies from Denison University.
